PhaNgan Animal Care is located on the south of the island, approximately 1 km from the main town of Thong Sala, on the road to Haad Rin Beach. PAC is a non-profit organisation, developed to provide essential care for the many ill and suffering stray animals of Koh PhaNgan. PAC moved to its current premises in May 2008 which is located in Wok Tum which is a 5 minute motorbike ride from Thongsala, the largest town on the island. Our premises are surrounded by a high wall with a large gate for entry / exit, and PAC currently has 8 resident dogs and 3 resident cats. Until the founding of PAC in September 2001, there was no veterinary care or advice on the island, no vaccination, and no population control measures except for yearly poisoning by dart or bait.

The mahout rides on the elephant's neck and uses leg pressure and a thotti, a special implement to guide the elephant. In contrast carrying tourists is an easy walk in the park and here they can live for eighty or even one hundred years! If you come in the early morning or late afternoon you may have the opportunity to meet our elephants while they are having their daily bath.
